End of an Era

For many expats, certain sights, sounds and tastes of home generate strong feelings of attachment. We Brits abroad have some wonderful stars of tv and radio who have a special place in our hearts. My personal list would include Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Joanna Lumley and that old rogue, Terry Wogan. Being away from home and not able to access the regular morning show, doesn't lessen the blow that he announced this week, an end to his 7am weekday morning show which he hosted from 1973 to 1984, and again from 1993 through to current day. The show will end at the end of this year. The silent majority of middle England tune in in their droves; it is the biggest programme in the UK with ratings higher than any tv show.

At 71 Mr Wogan deserves the odd lie in and it seems he is not hanging up his mic for good and will be returning with some daytime show.

Any TOGS out there wanting to follow up on the story, check out Terry's blog :
