After a long summer, it is truly great to be back to routine. The forewarnings of doom have proved ill-founded. Classes are full and the roads are busy - albeit slightly easier given the spread of traffic accomodating Ramadan hours. ExpatWoman hosts several weekly coffee mornings and mums groups accross town and at every one, every week we have been welcoming newcomers arriving, all through the summer.
Sat in Costa at Arabian Ranches last week, I couldn't help but overhear a guy phoning his wife back in the UK, reporting back on houses he'd seen and first impressions of how life might be. It through me right back to our first few weeks here and how exciting it had all been. It was clear from day one that our "hardship posting" (haha... well it was 12 years ago) was going to be just fine thank you !
It can be a lonely time too of course... the first six months. For women, finding a good girlfriend is pretty make or break, and the only way to do that is to get out there and meet people... casting your net as wide as possible. Got to be somebody like you here; how odd can you be ?!

To all the newcomers in town we wish a warm welcome. Through ExpatWoman we offer a whole gamut of free services and really, everything you need to know about family life in the region. Check out the events too. Andrea has hit the ground running taking over the events role, and has lots of plans for September, October, November including our annual Breakfast at The Burj at the end of September - a chance to experience the fabulous ballroom, and we have a chocolatier flying in from Belgium for that event... hope he's bring samples !
