They're pretty much on hold through Ramadan as school premises close early, but that's quite welcome given its still so hot. Temparatures and humidity drop away through October and then November to March/April we will enjoy a long winter outdoors. Maybe you'd have to have lived in the UK to fully appreciate the pleasure of being able to book bbqs, beach days, camping trips, weekend breaks in the Northern Emirates... weeks in advance. With the normal school day ending at 1-2pm for primary schools, and 3pm for secondary (they start at 7.30), long afternoons are free for regular hobbies and children here are spoilt for choice : arts, ballet and modern dance, basketball, boxing, brownies, cubs and guides, f1, football, go-karting, golf, kite-surfing, martial arts, netball, rugby, sailing, scuba diving, skiing and snowboarding, surfing, tennis, theatre.... Well else would you get that level of choice? Mothers drive for miles, criss-crossing the city every afternoon, spending hours on touchlines... bottles of water in the summer, flasks in the winter, happy to catch up with friends whilst lending (sometimes very) vocal support.
Check http://www.expatwoman.com/Dubai/monthly_After_School_Activites.aspx for club contacts. And enjoy your last few afternoons of freedom. All our timetables will get very busy after Eid ;-)
