Staying with the roast theme, I picked up this interesting thread from the board this morning : http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=79592. Picking up a pre-cooked chicken is a common weekly ritual for many families, with rotating spits in most of the supermarkets. As the thread suggests, they're such scrawny little creatures... not far on from being eggs so yes, you do wonder how they were reared. Growth hormones? I have always assumed not, given they are so small, but who knows... maybe someone on the board is married to someone who works for a local poultry farm ;-)
Over the last couple of years more organic options have crept into the market both for meats and vegetables. As well as being considerable more expensive, they're a little more off the beaten track (for me) and I don't get organised to buy them. Whenever I'm in a new-broom frame of mind - back to exercise, eating sensibly, getting rid of the piles of rubbish accumulated at home... - seeking out a regular supply of good organic produce is added to the list. Haven't managed to find a solution yet but I'm on the look out.
