Dubai Expat Schools : Back Before or After Eid ?

Much consternation this week at announcements in the press and on air regarding the local education authority, KHDA, ruling that schools will not return until after Eid, Sept 20th. For the expat schools, having broken up for the summer this week, that would mean stretching the already long 9 week summer break to eleven weeks.

Is it all a storm in a teacup ?
It is not clear however whether the ruling applies to schools offering the National curriculum only... in which case we are needlessly worrying.

Education professionals from schools teaching the British and US curriculum, are also unsure, having been told that the ruling would not apply, they are reverting to the Authority early next week to reconfirm. Parents should check their own school website for updates.

Meanwhile, the debate goes on.... the ExpatWoman Information Board has covered the issue for the last few days. Any announcement by schools no doubt will quickly find its way to one of these threads :

Schools Back After Ramadan - http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=72111

Parents concerned about maintaining continuity of study can check out website options such as :

Get them doing a regular few hours a week and they will be in much better shape to hit the ground running when they do get back to school.
